Welcome to Hutch's Wargames!
I guess the first thing I should do is introduce myself, my real name is Simon Hutchinson but for the most part people refer to me as Hutch. I have always been interested in art and all things fantasy; I had my first experience with small scale figures back in the eighties.
A friend of mine, Darren Woodhouse, played Warhammer fantasy battle and encouraged me to join in. Neither of us really understood the rules of the game but we had great fun collecting and painting figures. When Battletech was released we pushed aside our collection of fantasy figures and became real Mech heads for several years. As things always do we drifted apart mainly due to our jobs. I joined the army and for several years did not even give wargaming a second thought.
Eventually I ended up being based in London where I met a great friend 'Rosie'. By chance we got onto the subject of wargaming and he persuaded me to go to the Staines wargames club; most of the games were historical and all of them used rules I had never heard of. I was encouraged to turn my hand to historical gaming and painting. I sold off my old fantasy and battletech collections and took a keener interest in history; my first historical army being 10mm Franco Prussian War French.
Time moved on and our collections grew, we wrote our own rules many of which proved to be very popular. We tried to paint our figures and terrain to the best possible standard and were often accused of having too much free time. I left the army and joined the police force at about the same time I moved out of London; again a new chapter of my life started.
I found that there were more figure manufacturers out there than I could have dared to imagine. So many fine models to collect but so little space to store them. I wanted to have something from every era and every Company. Skirmish games were the way forward and allowed me to collect figures from ancients to the far future without the worry of storage.
I have always thought of art as a skill that needs to be practised to be improved; I don't claim to be a professional painter but I can produce good quality painting for wargaming. I paint because I enjoy it. This website is intended to be a living thing with regular changes and contains a selection of my work.
Please take the time to look around and feel free to leave any comments in my guestbook.
Happy Gaming!!
